PURPOSE:To prepare long glass fiber having high alkali resistance stably for a long time and economically with high efficiency by forming a compsn. obtd. by mixing a specified alkali resistance improving agent and a fibrization modi fier to silicon manganese slag. CONSTITUTION:Silicon manganese slag (A) by-produced as industrial waste in the silicon manganese smelting is oxidized with O2 and/or air in the molten state to remove S, C, and metal by oxidation. Then, an alkali resistance improv ing agent (B) consisting of 2-7wt% ZrO2, 5-15wt% TiO2, 0-3wt% La2O3 and/or 0-3wt% SnO2 and a fibrization modifier (C) consisting of 32-36wt% SiO2, 12-16wt% CaO, and 3-10wt% compd. expressed by R2O (where R is Na and/or K), etc., are added thereto. The adjusted compsn. is melt-spun to obtain the titled long glass fiber. |
