PURPOSE:To provide a welding device which forms an adequate weld zone and can weld base metals by the constitution in which the magnitude of the gap between the two base metals is detected by the echo levels of an ultrasonic probe and the swing angle of a welding torch is controlled in accordance with the detected value thereof. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic probe 14 which detects the echo levels of base metals 11, 12 is positioned on the front side in the advancing direction of a welding torch 13 and is provided via a joint 17 and an arm 16, etc. to a welding device which advances the torch 13 in an arrow A direction along the gap between the base metals 11 and 12 and welds grooves 11A, 12A while oscillating B at a prescribed swing angle. The transmission and reception coil 15 of said probe 15 transmits the high-frequency pulse generated by a flaw detector 20, receives the echoes reflected from the parts of the metals 11, 12 covered by the coil 15 except the groove 11A, 12A part, and the echoes are amplified with a flaw detector 20 and are transmitted to a swing angle control device 21. The swing angle of the torch 13 is controlled via an actuator 24 by a processing circuit 22 and a swing angle correcting circuit 23 according to the magnitude of the echo level. |
