PURPOSE:To pickup the image of a transparent original by arranging a light source on the cover body of an original reader and irradiating an original setting surface from above. CONSTITUTION:When the 2nd cover body 14 is supported on the top surface of a cabinet 1 pivotally or threadably and the 1st cover body 5 is opened so as to pickup an image of an transparent original, the original setting surface 2 is closed instead of the 1st cover body 5. The 2nd light emitting bodies 15 and 15 made of a fluorescent lamp and the 2nd reflecting plates 15a and 15a which reflect light from the 2nd light emitting bodies 15 and 15 toward the ceiling surface of the cover body uniformly are arranged in the 2nd cover body 14, and milk glass 16 is fitted on the reverse surface. Therefore, when a transparent original such as a Roentgen film is handled, the original 5 is covered with this 2nd cover body 14 and the 1st light emitting bodies 3 and 3 are turned on associatively with the turning-on operation of the 2nd light emitting bodies 15 and 15 and then a transmission image appears on the original setting surface 4. This transmission image is picked up by a video camera 8 through reflecting mirrors 6 and 7 and the image pickup state is confirmed on a monitor 10 to record the transmission image on a recording device.
