PURPOSE:To judge quickly and assuredly the ON or OFF state of each lightening object by setting an area enclosing each lightening object to detect the lightening area within the set area for each byte and obtaining said lighting area in the form of the number of bits by means of a conversion table. CONSTITUTION:The lighting position of each LED.lamp, etc. and the reference lighting area are previously stored for each cassette deck in the form of the reference data for recognition. Based on this reference data, the recognition is carried out. A processor 2 binary coding the image pickup signal sent from a TV camera 9 through a picture processing circuit 4 by means of the threshold value stored when the reference data is produced. This binary coded signal is stored to a picture memory. Then the processor 2 measures the LED lighting area within the same area as an area 25 stored in the picture memory by means of a lighting area measurement program. Then the ratio is obtained between the measured lighting area and the reference lighting area, i.e., the stored reference data. Then a lighting state is decided if the obtained ratio is larger than the fixed value. While an OFF state is decided for the lighting object if said ratio is smaller than the fixed value.
