<p>PURPOSE:To rotate quickly a picture by 90 deg. clockwise or counterclockwise with simple constitution by providing a picture memory, a shift register and a control section or the like to eliminate the need for a complicated and long operating program. CONSTITUTION:A picture processing unit is provided with a CPU1, a keyboard 7, a display section 6, an external storage device 5 and a picture output device 4. Moreover, a picture input device fetching a picture data externally in a binary code sequence, a picture memory 3 storing a picture data as a binary code group while being arranged into a matrix, and a picture rotating circuit 8 rotating the direction of picture clockwise or counter clockwise by 90 deg. together with the memory 3 are provided. The circuit 8 is provided with shift registers 13a-13h, a decoder 12 and a gate circuit 14. An address bus 10 and a control bus 11 are connected to the decoder 12 and the bus 11 is connected to the circuit 14.
