PURPOSE:To cast a heat insulating material integrally into the combustion chamber by integrally casting and forming at the time of casting the piston an assembly body consisting of a ring-shaped support member mating with the contor of the side wall and a heat insulating member fixed to a predetermined position of the outer periphery of said ring-shaped member, on the side wall of the combustion chamber at the top portion of the piston. CONSTITUTION:The heat insulating member 4 cast in the inner side of each side wall surface 2A of a cavity 2 forms an assembly body welded and fixed to the outer periphery of a ring-shaped support member 5 having a shape mating with the contor of the side wall, through a continuous member 6, and an air layer 4a which affords a heat insulating property is formed in the interior of the assembly body. The support member 5 is inserted through a core portion 7a of the combustion chamber to correctly locate the heat insulating member 4 with respect to the cavity 2 of the piston 1. A metal pattern 8 having a pouring gate is placed so that it encircles the core portion 7a, and a metal pattern 9 is disposed inside the metal pattern 8 to form a space having a contor of the piston 1, and molten metal is poured into the pattern through the pouring gate. |
