The subject of the invention is a method and device providing for the recording of radar images on a video recorder, and their restoring. According to the invention, one image out of sixteen is selected and divided into quarters and each quarter is expanded in order to transform it into a message having the format of a complete image; it is this message which is recorded on the tape of the video recorder. Restoring is done by playing back the messages successively, compacting them and storing them four by four so as to restore an image which can be displayed on a television screen.
