<p>PURPOSE:To improve a quenching ratio, obtain a high density ratio, and facilitate compacting by performing wave front conversion of part of incident luminous flux by utilizing the refractive index distribution in a thermo-optic effect medium, and leading either of pieces of luminous flux before and after the wave front conversion as modulating light. CONSTITUTION:For example, when a heating resistor 6b among heating resistors 6a, 6b... of an optical modulating element is driven selectively to generate heat, a refractive index distribution 7 is formed in an area of a facing liquid thin layer 2. This refractive index distribution is utilized to lead luminous flux as information light. For example, when a heating resistor 6c is driven by a voltage Vi to generate a refractive index distribution 7 in the liquid thin layer, incident luminous flux 10 have the wave front converted and is projected as luminous flux 12 to illuminate a photodetection medium 14, and luminous flux incident on undriven heating resistors 6a and 6b, etc., on the other hand, is projected as luminous flux 11 without wave front conversion and converged by a lens 13a to be cut off by a light shield filter 15a.</p> |
