<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an ethyleneamine compound useful as an agricultural chemical, epoxy hardener, etc., easily, by the thermal decomposition of an aqueous solution of an ethyleneamine carbonate in the presence of a specific alcohol and/ or cyclic ether. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol (e.g. n-propanol or 4-6C alcohol) and/or a cyclic ether (e.g. 1,4-dioxane, 1,3-dioxane, etc.) are added to an aqueous solution of an ethyleneamine carbonate, and the mixture is heated at the boiling point of the solvent under atmospheric or reduced pressure to effect the complete decarbonation of the carbonate to ethyleneamine. The ethyleneamine used in the present process is e.g. ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, piperazine, etc. EFFECT:The conventional process for the production of ethyleneamine by the thermal decomposition of the corresponding ethyleneamine carbonate has the problem of the quality degradation. The problem can be solved by carrying out the decomposition in the presence of an alcohol and/or cyclic ether. The decarbonation is complete, and the process is economical.</p> |
