PURPOSE:To prevent the reduction of read margin and also to attain a fixed magnetic disc with high reliability by comparing a read signal voltage of a magnetic head with a reference read signal voltage to detect the presence of a relative tilt between a carriage and a spindle shaft thereby correcting the tilt. CONSTITUTION:When the magnetic disc 57 reaches a steady-state speed, a read voltage of each magnetic head of a magnetic head group 51 and a reference read signal voltage of a reference voltage generator 58 are compared by a read signal comparator 54, and if a fault in the comparison signal of the comparator 54 by a magnetic head shift detecting circuit 55, the head shift by which the comparison signal of the comparator 54 restores to the normal value is detected and its magnetic head shift and its direction are stored in a head shift storage circuit 59. After the shift of all the magnetic heads is finished, a READY signal is fed from a control circuit 53 to a high-order device 60 and write/read of the magnetic disc device is attained.
