PURPOSE:To provide a polarizing film which has an excellent polarizing characteristic, improved optical uniformity and excellent durability and is usable at and under a high temp. and high humidity by disposing a filament-like stretched material contg. a photodichromatic material with a high molecular polymer as a medium. CONSTITUTION:A filament-like stretched material contg. a photodichromatic material is disposed with a high molecular polymer as a medium to obtain a polarizing film. The filament-like stretched material used for such polarizing film is as small as about 1.0 in Rd, i.e., the ratio between the max. length and min. length in the two directions perpendicular to the stretching direction and intersecting orthogonally with each other and has therefore a high degree of polarization. A material having photodichromaticity, for example, direct dye or the like is added to such filament and the filaments cut to about 3mm. are dispersed in the high molecular polymer which is then made into, for example, a uniaxially stretched film. The film obtd. in such a way has an excellent polarizing characteristic and if the resin material having high optical uniformity and high durability is used, the film is usable for an application under and at high humidity and high temp. |
