PURPOSE:To heat easily molten iron to the desired temp. by molding and solidifying powder or granules of a metal or a ferroalloy which generates heat having high calorie during an oxidation reaction as a principal starting material together with secondary starting materials to form an exothermic agent and by putting the agent in a furnace. CONSTITUTION:Powder or granules of a metal such as metallic Al or low grade Al or a ferroalloy such as ferrosilicon which generates heat of oxidation having high calorie are used as a principal starting material and mixed with secondary starting materials. The mixture is molded and solidified to form an exothermic agent. This agent is put in an electric furnace, a reverberatory furnace or the like. It is oxidized with gaseous oxygen blown into the furnace, and molten iron is heated by the heat of formation. |
