Wedge set for felling trees

During felling of trees with a saw, the saw often becomes jammed in the saw cut by the action of the wind on the tree crown. A wedge is therefore driven into the saw cut from behind in order to widen the same and thus facilitate further sawing through. If it was necessary to drive the felling wedge in deep, the tip of the long wedge then jammed the saw firmly. The division into three of the wedge has the effect that even the thickest wedge part does not need to penetrate deep into the saw cut in order to exert the same lever effect on the tree to be felled as was previously possible only with long wedges.
