In the longitudinal adjustment device of a vehicle seat, two adjustable longitudinal guides (20) which are arranged underneath the sides of the vehicle seat and are not motor-driven are provided. They each have two guide rails (22, 24) which are guided one in the other, are releasably locked to one another and rest against one another via lubricant. On each of the guide rails (22 and 24) a toothed rack (30) is mounted whose length corresponds essentially to the maximum displacement path of the two guide rails (22, 24) with respect to one another. On the respective other guide rail (24 and 22), a pinion (32) which intermeshes continuously with the toothed rack (30) is mounted.
