Sliding and tilt-up roof for vehicles, having a cover which, according to choice, either closes or at least partially opens a roof opening formed in a fixed part of the vehicle roof. A movable water channel is provided, which, in the closed position of the cover, is located under the rear edges of the cover and roof opening, is connected on both sides via a respective coupling arm to lateral parts of the cover or a cover carrier, which are located at a distance from the rear edge of the cover, and, in the closed position, is pressed via seals against the undersides of the cover and of the fixed part of the vehicle roof. The movable water channel is prestressed upwards by means of spring force. <IMAGE>
