A filter for sepg. high and low viscosity liqs. by absorption comprises a container with liq. inlet and outlet and holding filter cushions each with a mesh cover over a closed-cell foamed polymer filter unit with the cells perforated. Each cushion can absorb about six times its wt. of high viscosity liq. and total cushion vol. is no more than 20% of container vol.. - The foam is pref. of polyethylene, polypropylene or ethylene-methacrylic acid copolymer. The vol. of each cushion is pref. about 7 cm3, and the units can be compressed with compressed air or a pressure plate to remove the absorbed liq. for discharge from the filter. There is pref. a regulator of flow rate through the filter and thus contact time between liq. and units. |
