A hollow wedge-shaped step is to be produced which consists of a cast step body (1) which forms a tread and riser (2, 3), is closed off at the ends by side webs (4) and has a thrust and pressure rebate (10, 12) for supporting the step on a wedge-shaped step of the same type arranged in front of it in the stair flight. So that such wedge-shaped steps of different dimensions can be produced economically, first of all the step body (1) is cast to an actual size exceeding the desired size with regard to the step height and width, after which the step body (1) is cut to the desired size of the step height and width by cutting the thrust and pressure rebate (10, 12) and by trimming the tread (2) parallel to the thrust rebate (12) before the underside of the step body (1) is trimmed in accordance with the inclination of the stair flight. <IMAGE>
