The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for automatically preprocessing analogue signals corresponding to different muscle potentials of a living organism. In this process, the analogue signals are initially converted into individual digital signals; the individual signals of groups, in each case consisting of a constant number of individual signals, are stored, subsequently deviation signals are formed in accordance with deviations of the individual signals of the groups with respect to signals corresponding to average values of the groups; finally display signals which are derived from the deviation signals are assigned to areas for which area signals are formed taking into account the frequency of the display signals lying within them.
