摘要 A method used for detecting toxic compounds entails determining the motility (active movement) of minute organisms (e.g. Artemia salina L.), which are present in test tubes, with the aid of an optical measuring apparatus. To do this, the light pulses which are generated by the interruptions in the ray path, as a consequence of the movement of the minute animals which are located between a lamp and the light-sensitive detectors, are recorded by the light-sensitive detectors over a defined time period, electronically amplified and counted or further processed. It is possible by incorporating a filter or change in the light source to use particular wavelength ranges for the measurement. The measurement time can be varied in order to be able to use the method also for effects which occur very rapidly. Disturbances due to agitation on introduction of the samples can be suppressed by an adjustable delay of the start of measurement.
