Safety binding for skis for fastening a boot to a ski, having a first holding element or front jaw, which is pivotably mounted on the ski, is provided with a sole holder for holding the front end of the boot and is movable at least laterally against the action of an elastic system, having a second holding element or an automatic heel device which is for holding the rear end of the boot and can be moved against the action of an elastic system at least through a horizontal axis and having a plate which is arranged between the front jaw and the automatic heel device, is mounted so as to be pivotable about a vertical peg and on which the sole of the boot rests. The pivotable plate has on its front end a vertical element which is for frontal support and against which the front end of the boot is supported.
