The invention relates to a smelt cyclone for the reaction smelting of ore concentrates, especially particulate sulphide nonferrous metal concentrates, with a cover through which the concentrate particles are introduced from above, and with a tangential feed for the reaction gases. In known smelt cyclones, the ore concentrates are introduced either off-centre from above, directly in front of the tangential reaction gas feed, or tangentially into the smelt cyclone together with the reaction gas. The concentrate particles are thus centrifuged immediately after entry into the smelt cyclone onto its inner wall, so that the desired physical and chemical reactions only proceed with difficulty or incompletely. By the special constructional form of the smelt cyclone according to the invention, with a central concentrate feed pipe and several, at least two, tangential reaction gas feed ducts, it is very advantageously achieved that the residence time of the particles in the gas phase is extended such that the desired reactions proceed completely in the suspended stream before the particles strike against the inner wall of the cyclone.
