PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight sintered Al alloy for a sliding member having superior wear resistance by specifying the porosity of an Al alloy contg. specified percentages of Cu and Fe, Ni, Cr or Mo. CONSTITUTION:A green compact having a composition consisting of 5-20wt% Cu, 0.2-20wt% one or more kinds of dispersed phase forming components selected among Fe, Ni, Cr, Mo and alloys each consisting of two or more among Fe, Ni, Cr and Mo, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is formed. The composition may further contain 0.2-20wt% one or more kinds of matrix strengthening components selected among Mn, Mg, Si, Sn and Zn. The compact is sintered in an atmosphere of decomposed gaseous ammonia under prescribed load to obtain a sintered Al alloy having 3-20% porosity. Though the alloy is light in weight, it has superior wear resistance and shows superior performance as a sliding member.
