Method and apparatus for producing sterile packages which are sealed in a leakproof manner

The material to be packed is inserted between two webs of material which are fed separately from one another and is enclosed between them under pressure. The webs of material are printed with edge patterns of bonding agent components which complement one another and which combine to form an integral connection when subjected to pressure. Blanks which have been cut out of the respective web of material using a cutting roller and which each carry an edge pattern are fixed on a roller by a partial vacuum, so that they cover recesses formed on the periphery of the roller and the shape of which corresponds to the shape of the articles to be packed. The recesses each have a depth which corresponds to half the thickness of the articles to be packed when they are compressed. When the rollers rotate, an article to be packed is in each case inserted in alignment with the recesses between the sections of the webs of material fixed on the rollers. Further rotation of the rollers then causes the article to be compressed and the edge patterns of the two sections of webs of material to be integrally connected, to produce a finished package in each case.
