Optical stimulator for a patient to be treated when recumbent, especially in relaxation therapy, in which the stimulator which comprises at least one light-emitting apparatus (31; 32), such as a lamp or a light-emitting diode, can be arranged so as to be adjustable in height above a couch or the like. The stimulator possesses a housing (6) in the front wall of which the light-emitting apparatus (31; 32) is fitted and in the bottom of which a sensor is installed for contactless measurement of body movements taking place below the sensor. <IMAGE>
