The automatic poultry drinking trough washing facility has been developed for the cleaning of drinking troughs for broiler fowl. The principal problems resided in the highly curved shape and the heavy, slimy contamination of the drinking troughs. An essential prerequisite for marketability was a relatively low price. In order to ensure a long service life, as few moving parts as possible were to be used. An inclined plane with flushing water assistance for propulsion was thus employed. The drinking troughs are brought into the washing position through a trap with an oscillating double lever which is powered by a geared motor with time control, and in that position they are cleaned by means of a round brush which cleans the edge of the trough and a roller brush which cleans the external surfaces, while being flushed with water. The high intensity of washing is achieved by means of strong brush material and a high peripheral speed of the brushes. The drinking troughs are rotated in the washing station by means of a rotary drive. The hood, which is likewise made of corrosion-resistant material (most parts being made from V2A or aluminium), ensures that little water is lost during the operation. The drawing clarifies the structure and functioning of the installation. <IMAGE>
