PURPOSE:To enable fine adjustment of a pattern pitch by processing a printing data by bits when it is outputted to a printer after processed by bytes to generate data inserted between character patterns by dots without reducing the processing speed of a computer. CONSTITUTION:A controller CPU performs a parallel processing by 8 bits and the resulting pattern data is placed at a continuous addresses by 24 bits in a buffer memory MEM. A direct memory access controller DMAC reads out a data in the buffer memory MEM by one bit at a time to be outputted to a printer RT. Here, following the pattern data of 24 dot pitches, 30 dot pitches containing a 6 dot black pixel data are given. This is used to set a pitch between patterns.
