PURPOSE:A rubber composition suitable for pneumatic tires for use on a snowy or frozen road, prepared by mixing natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, butadiene/styrene copolymer rubber, butadiene rubber, or (halogenated) butyl rubber with a specified diene rubber. CONSTITUTION:A rubber composition prepared by mixing 50-90pts.wt. at least one rubber selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, butadiene/styrene copolymer rubber, butadiene rubber, butyl rubber and halogenated butyl rubber with 10-50pts.wt. diene rubber having a styrene group content (x) of 0-25% and a 1,2-vinyl bond group content (y) of 0-50%, and the following relationships between x and y: [(y-5)/x]>2 and [(y-50)/x]>=-(5/2). Preferably, the above rubber composition contains 40-100pts.wt. reinforcing carbon black. When this amount is below 40pts.wt. the wet surface grip and abrasion resistance are decreased, while when it exceeds 100pts.wt., the abrasion resistance is decreased undesirably.
