DRYING DEVICE FOR CASTING MOLD

PURPOSE:To make insertion and withdrawal of a drying device into and from a casting mold free and to dry easily the narrow part by using a light emitting source and optical fibers for a heat source for heating and drying the moisture absorbed or stuck to the mold. CONSTITUTION:Drying is not enough in the sand mold 3 near a narrow part 4 and the insufficient drying is a cause for a blowhole defect in the stage of producing an integral cast steel product 5. An optical fiber 1 is inserted into the area near the narrow part and light 2 for heating is passed therethrough to heat and dry the neighborhood of the part 4 in order to prevent such defect. The free insertion of the fiber 1 into the mold according to the shape of the narrow part is made possible by using many fibers 1 without bundling the individual fibers 1. The fibers after drying can be easily recovered simply by pulling the fibers to the outside of the mold. Even if the fibers 1 are broken and remain in the mold, no adverse influence is given to the casting as the fibers are made of an Si compd.
