PURPOSE:To reduce the length in axial direction of a switching unit i.e., the overall length of an on load tap selector, by a method wherein the phase-splitting in the switching unit is performed in the circumferential direction of an insulated container. CONSTITUTION:The interval X between an intermittent driving device 70, consisting of a supporting arm 12a and the like which supports a sprocket wheel 16 and the driving wheel of a Geneva gear, and the current collecting contact 21 of a switching unit 200 is considerably shorter than the interval Y wherein the wheel 16 and the driving wheel 17 are not provided. The potential of a partition plate 12 and the intermittent driving device 70 is fixed to the potential of the three-phase current collecting contact 21 of a selective switch 10, the sprocket wheel 16 and the Geneva gear 17 are arranged within the three-phase whereon the potential of both of them will be given, the phase splitting in the switching unit 200 is performed in the circumferential direction of an insulated container 4b, and the switching unit 200 is arranged in the phase corresponding to three- phase, thereby enabling to reduce the length of the switching unit 200 in axial direction.
