The method and solution of this invention are for production of a toughened, mar-resistant floor film. The method includes the steps of applying to a floor surface a liquid solution containing a cross-linking ingredient, and buffing said floor surface with said solution thereon in moist condition to heat the solution and surface and produce crosslinking of said ingredient with the floor surface.
