PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the bending, damage or abnormal unevenness of the core material of an optical fiber, by judging the quality of the repeating pattern of a same shape by utilizing a self-correlation image. CONSTITUTION:The core material 1 of an optical fiber has a spiral shape in the longitu dinal direction thereof and is moving to the longitudinal direction shown by an arrow 2. An optical pattern detector 3 consists of a light source 31 and a TV camera 36 for photographing the shadow picture of the core material 1 and a TV image is sent to an acousto-optical correction device 4 operated in a real time. The correlation device 4 can directly input a TV signal and can output a correlation output signal having to come to a self-correlation image in a real time. The characteristic point according to image luminance at each position with respect to the self-correlation image obtained from a reference article is stored in a characteristic point memory 5. Even with respect to the self-correlation image of an article to be judged in its quality,a characteristic point according to the image luminance at each position is extracted and compared and collated with the memory content of the memory 5 by a characteristic point comparator 6 and a quality judge result showing whether change is confirmed is displayed on a display device 7. |
