PURPOSE:To obtain easily and inexpensively the titled medium having excellent heat resistance and capable of enduring multiple times of rewriting of information, by a method wherein a sputtered film of a hydrocarbon or the like containing a low melting point metal such as Te is provided on a base while impressing a DC voltage on the base. CONSTITUTION:A sputtered film 6 or a plasma-polymerized film of a fluorocarbon or hydrocarbon containing a low melting point metal consisting of Te, Bi and/or Sb as a recording substance is provided on the base 5 while impressing a DC voltage on the base 5 by a DC power source 10 to obtain the objective medium. The DC voltage is preferably -50--500V. A material for forming the film of the carbon compound is, e.g., methane or ethylene.
