<p>Intra-uterine devices made from flexible plastic material, comprising a stem, one end of which carries two branches and the other end of which carries a removal thread. The stem (1) and the branches (2, 3) are coated with a thin layer of carbon and the branches (2, 3) carry protuberances (4, 5 or 19, 20) produced totally or partially from carbon, which are either moulded at the same time as the assembly (1, 2, 3), or produced separately and attached to the ends of the branches (2, 3). Moreover, beads (8), advantageously separated by washers (9) made from flexible plastic material, consist of or contain a substance capable of being released gradually into the uterine cavity, such as a pure metal, especially copper, porous or otherwise, ceramic, or porous carbon, the pores of which contain one or more contraceptive and/or therapeutic substances capable of being released gradually into the uterine cavity.
