PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed nickel cadmium storage battery having excellent feature of sponge matal electrode, high capacity, and high reliability by setting in a specified range the composition of positive active material comprising the paste of nickel hydroxide, metal nickel powder, metal cobalt powder, and cadmium hydroxide powder and electrolyte composition. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode is prepared by impregnating in a spongy nickel substrate the paste comprising nickel hydroxide serving as positive active material, 5-20wt% of metal nickel powder serving as conductor to the nickel hydroxide, 3-7% of metal cadmium powder improving utilization of active material, and 0-15% of cadmium hydroxide improving cycle life. Alkaline electrolyte is prepared by dissolving 15-45% of lithium hydroxide monohydrate to 1l of sp.gr. 1.27-1.35 potassium hydroxide solution. By using the positive electrode and the alkaline electrolyte, a sealed nickel cadmium storage battery having high capacity can be assembled. |
