A jack plug socket comprises a housing (1) having a jack plug insertion port with first switch means (16, 17) disposed adjacent the jack plug insertion port. The first switch means (16, 17) are adapted to be operated by insertion of a jack plug (P) and the socket also comprises tip contact means (15) biased so as to contact the tip (P3) of a jack plug (P) fully inserted into the jack plug socket. The jack plug socket further comprises a second switch means (30) adapted to be operated by displacement of the tip contact means (15) resulting from full insertion of the jack plug (P) and which second switching means (30) resiliently biases the tip contact means (15) for the said contact with the jack plug (P). It will be evident that upon insertion of the jack plug (P) into the socket there will be a time delay between operation of the first switch means (16, 17) and the second switch means (30). Such an arrangement is particularly advantageous for use with equipment in which it is desired to avoid howling while monitoring directly from the equipment while a recording is being made using that equipment. The loudspeakers of the equipment are connected to the first switch means (16, 17) and a muting circuit of the equipment in connected to the second switch means (30). <IMAGE> |
