PURPOSE:To predict the weight of coal in high accuracy prior to its charging, by estimating the piled state of the coal charged in coke oven carbonization chamber through the use of the characteristics of the coal to be charged, the dimensional specifications of the coke oven and charging conditions. CONSTITUTION:(A) The interparticulate cohesive force of coal to be charged is evaluated by the use of the average particle size and water content of the coal, (B) variation in coal bulk density in carbonization chamber caused by the drop impact developed in charging the coke oven carbonization chamber with said coal is assessed by the use of the dimensional specifications of the oven, coal cutout rate from charging truck and angle of repose of coal pile. Next, (C) coal bulk density distribution in said chamber is calculated by combining the value determined in (B) with that assessed in (A). Thus, the coal weight can be predicted prior to charging the coal in said chamber, by estimating said weight by the use of the coal bulk density distribution obtained above and said dimensional specifications.
