PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for cyclic compounds useful as agricultural chemicals and medicines, etc. in high yield, by heating an aminoalkyl halide hydrosulfide in a solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aminoalkyl halide hydrosulfide expressed byf formula I (X is halogen; n is an integer 2-6; R<1> and R<2> are 1-12C alkyl or 4-12C cycloalkyl, etc.) is heated in a solvent, e.g. methanol, to give an aminoalkanethiol hydrohalide expressed by formula II, which is then neutralized with a base, e.g. NaOH, to afford the aimed aminoalkanethiol expressed by formula III. The heat treatment is carried out usually at 50-200 deg.C, preferably 80-150 deg.C for 5-10hr, preferably 1-5hr. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by neutralizing an aminoalkyl halide hydrohalide with a base, and adding hydroen sulfide to the resultant solution containing the liberated aminoalkyl halide.
