HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUS-CASTING MACHINE

A horizontal continuous-casting machine for use in forming strands of metals and alloys thereof is disclosed. First and second stepping motors are used to withdraw the cast strand from the furnace in either a continuous or intermittent fashion. The stepping motors are controlled by a high speed translator which controls the number of steps and the rotational speed of the stepping motors. The strand withdrawal rate fluctuates in the course of the continuous movement between a maximum and a minimum valve within each stroke.
