PURPOSE:To produce a polyurethane having high rigidity and excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance and impact resistance, by carrying out the urethane- forming reaction of a polyisocyanate with an epoxy-containing polymeric polyol, and opening the ring of the epoxy group simultaneously to or before or after the urethane-forming reaction. CONSTITUTION:A (A) polyisocyanate is made to react with (B) a polyol comprising an epoxy-containing polymeric polyol having the total polymerized monomer content of 30-70(wt)% and obtained by the polymerization of (i) 5-95% epoxy- containing ethylenic unsaturated monomer (e.g. glycidyl methacrylate), (ii) 5- 95% (meth)acrylonitrile and if necessary (iii) 0-60% other ethylenic unsaturated monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate, styrene, etc.) in a polyol. Simultaneously to or before or after the above reaction, at least a part of the epoxy group is subjected to the ring-opening reaction in the presence of a curing agent (one or more compounds selected from polyisocyanates, acid anhydrides and polyamines) and/or a cure accelerator.
