PURPOSE:To grind uniformly the outside circumferential surface of a material to be ground over the entire length thereof by grinding said material while moving the 1st grinding wheel groups of which the axial center of revolution intersects a diagonally with the axial center of the material to be ground and the 2nd grinding wheel group of which the axial center of revolution intersects opposite-diagonally with the 1st grinding wheel group in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the cylindrical grinding wheels 301-306 are disposed in the longitudinal direction of a work roll 1. The respective axial centers of rotation of the wheels 301-306 intersect diagonally with the axial center C of the roll 1. The angle theta of the axial center C of the roll 1 relative to the vertical is set oppositely on the work side and drive side bordering at the central part M in the longitudinal direction of the roll 1. The wheels 301-306 are moved back and forth between the positions I-II, II-III, III-M, M-IV, IV-V, V-VI on the outside circumferential surface of the roll 1 while the wheels are respectively rotated by which the outside circumferential surface of the roll 1 is ground. |
