发明名称 TEMPERED GLASS BEAD
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the tempered glass bead having high mechanical strength which is resistant to abrasion, crushing by impact, and elution by a dispersant by quenching the glass bead for a sand mill from the temp. higher than the deformation point of glass. CONSTITUTION:The fragments of common soda-lime sheet glass are crushed to specified particle size, heated, and formed into a shape of a sphere. The glass bead having comparatively large particle size such as 0.7-4mm is heated to a temp. higher than the deformation point of glass, thrown into a molten salt of NaNO3, KNO3, etc., oil, or water, and quenched, 150-1,000kg/cm<2> compressive stress is given to the whole of the glass bead in this way, and the tempered glass bead can be obtained. The compressive stress is exerted to the vicinity of the center of the glass bead 1, and the distribution 2 of the compressive stress on the surface layer is made uniform in every direction due to its spheric shape. Accordingly, high compressive stress can be provided, and the desired excellent characteristics can be manifested.
