2-Heterocyclyl-6-hydroxy-lower alkyl-2-penem compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1 is lower alkyl substituted by hydroxyl or protected hydroxyl, R2 represents an unsaturated azaheterocyclyl radical bonded to the penem radical via a ring nitrogen atom, and R3 is carboxyl or functionally modified carboxyl, optical isomers of compounds of the formula I, mixtures of these optical isomers, and salts of those compounds of the formula I which have a salt-forming group, have antibiotic properties. The compounds are prepared by processes known per se. |
