PURPOSE:To improve the remaining color in the stage of decoloring by interposing an insulating layer between the lower electrode of an electrochromic display element and a tantalum pentoxide except the part where an iridium hydroxide is interposed. CONSTITUTION:A lower electrode 12 consisting of indium-tin oxide is formed on a glass base plate 11 and an iridium hydroxide layer 13 is formed to a display pattern shape thereon. An insulating film 20 consisting of alumina, etc. is formed over the entire surface of the electrode 12 except the lead-out part for the purpose of conducting the electrode 12 to the outside and the layer 13. A tantalum pentoxide layer 14 which is a solid electrolyte, a tungsten trioxide layer 15 which is a reduction coloring type electrochromic material and an upper electrode 16 consisting of indium-tin oxide are are successively formed, by which the intended electrochromic display element is obtd. The element has no remaining color when decolored. |
