The modification consists of inserting a number of additional cylinders between the take-up cylinder and the main drum. These comprise a transporter cylinder associated with a first pair and a second pair of pre-carding cylinders, and with a working cylinder situated between the two pairs of pre-carding cylinders. - Since each of the three cylinders differ in surface speeds, sepn. followed by transverse re-orientation of the fibres takes place and brings about a progressive cardage which gives great transverse consisting to the fibre.
