MEASURING METHOD OF CONNECTION LOSS OF OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To calculate the connection loss of subscriber optical fibers efficiently by receiving light from a flank at two points, i.e. the connection point of two optical fibers and an incident point. CONSTITUTION:A light source 11 which allows light to enter optical fibers A and B from flanks and a photodetector 12 for receiving the light from flanks of both optical fibers are coupled with the respective fibers. Then, the light is made incident on both fibers during the connecting operation of both optical fibers and the photodetector 12 is set between each incidence point and the connection point C to measure projection light power values PA1 and PB1 from both fibers before the connection and also measure projection light power values PA2 and PB2 from both fibers after the connection, thereby calculating the connection loss gamma from gamma=1/2{2(PA1+PB1)-(PA2+PB2)}.
