PURPOSE:To enhance reliability of airtightness and humidity resistance, and mass-productivity by bonding a light-transmitting base with an opposite base into one body by using an epoxy resin adhesive specified in compsn. and sealing in a display medium into a space between them. CONSTITUTION:A sealant composed essentially of a phenol-novolak type epoxy resin, contg. diaminophenylmethane as a hardening agent, and a silane coupling agent is applied between a light-transmitting base 1 and an opposite base 2 arranged opposite to it, and they are joined into one body with this sealant compsn., and a display medium 6 is injected into the space between them and sealed in. A solvent for giving thixotropy to the principal agent of the sealant compsn., such as '' Cellosolve'' acetate, is added, and as the filler, e.g., ''Aerosil'' i.e., colloidal silica, is used. Such an epoxy type sealant has a long pot life suitable for mass-production, good adhesion, good airtightness, and good humidity resistance, and causes no deterioration in electrooptical characteristics and liquid crystal orientation, thus permitting production of reliable liquid crystal display devices. |
