NEW MATERIAL:A bisphenol diether compound expressed by the formula (R is isopropyl or benzyl). EXAMPLE:4,4'-(1-Methylethylidene)bisphenol diisopropyl ether. USE:An injurious insect repellent having the repellent action of insects harmful to sanitation, e.g. cockroaches or white ants. PREPARATION:Bisphenol A [=4,4'-(1-methylethylidene)bisphenol] is reacted with an isopropyl halide or benzyl halide in a solvent, e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide, in the presence of an alkali, e.g. KOH, under heating to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula easily at a low cost.
