PURPOSE:To prevent white strips from generation at the time of recording intermediate gradation by providing a overlapping means to overlap amplitude modulation of high frequency to light intensity of light beams which are modulated at an intermediate gradation signal level of an input picture signal by a modulation means. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate gradation picture signal from a CCD image sensor enters a buffer amplifier 20. The polarity and gains of the amplifier 20 are adjusted so that a light output of a semiconductor laser 7 is outputted in proportion to a picture signal, and the amplifier 20 drives a transistor Q1. A high frequency signal generated by an oscillator 21 of high frequency is added to a current of the transistor Q1 through a coupling capacitor C1, and drives the semiconductor laser 7. Namely, light outputs c' and d' with which high frequency amplitude modulation is overlapped can be obtained in correspondence to drive currents (c) and (d). As a result, white strips are changed and disappeared.
