PURPOSE:To produce the titled copolymer at a relatively low temperature within a short time in high yields, by effecting thermal decomposition polymerization of a specified organosilicon compound with a specified organoboron compound in an inert gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An organometallic copolymer containing silicon and boron at a molar ratio of 2:1-200:1 is produced by effecting thermal decomposition polymerization of an organosilicon compound having at least one group selected from among those of formulas I , II, and III (wherein R<1> is H, methyl, ethyl, vinyl, or phenyl) with an organoboron compound of formula IV [wherein R<2> is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, a group of formula V (wherein n is an integer and R<4> is a monovalent hydrocarbon group), a group of formula VI (wherein R<5> is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon group), and R<3> is a monovalent hydrocarbon group] by heating to 250-500 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere. It is possible to produce the titled copolymer at relatively low temperature in high yields.
