PURPOSE:To lengthen the life of a resistance welding electrode by providing a composite coating made up of a Co or Ni layer and a Cr layer on the surface of the electrode that comes into contact with a material to be welded. CONSTITUTION:The first layer 21 made of Co is provided on the surface of an electrode member 1 which is in contact with the material 11 to be welded to a thickness of 5-120mum, or the first layer 21 made of Ni is provided to a thickness of 50-120mu. The second layer 22 made of Cr and 5-70mum in thickness is provided on the surface of the first layer 21 to form a composite coating layer 2. This electrode makes cracks difficult to occur in Cr of the surface coating second layer under high temperature and high pressure at the time of resistance welding, and the life of the electrode is lengthened in case of welding of galvanized steel sheets. |
